Winning the “most iconic” title, Mr. Lovre and Mr. Z go all the way back to 2014. Z stated that when he started at Garfield, Lovre “kind of intimidated” him, but once they had to share a classroom, the pair said they clicked easily and made each other laugh. However, it was during the pre-pandemic Winter Waltz, when Mr. Lovre taught Z to waltz, that’s when Z realized, “ this is one of my closest friends”. Right after that, Z “coughed on him and that started the pandemic”. When Z had his accident and needed assistance, he lived with the Lovre family for a period of time. In terms of dining, the Lovres stuck to a strictly Chipotle diet. Lovre recalled that “[Z] did ask for other food, but it was just Chipotle”. Despite the intense Messenger vs Arrow rivalry, Z and Mr. Lovre have defied all odds and built a strong friendship.
Fun Fact: Lovre and Z each have a tattoo of half a heart on their knee, and when put together it spells out ‘Zovre’
Mr. Englund and his co-teacher Mr. Kornilius are awarded the title of “Most Down to Earth.” Although Mr. Korn has never been spotted at Garfield, student Ima Ginary explains how Mr. Korn posts daily on Instagram Threads explaining the assignments. Despite Englund insisting on the legitimacy of his friend’s existence, no one but Englund has ever seen Mr. Korn. There have even been multiple sightings of Englund roaming the hallways seemingly talking to nothing… Their origin story began at “Southeast Northwest Oregon Teaching School where [they] shared a dorm,” Englund said. He reminisced on how the duo would “go on lots of long drives. [Their] whip was a Jefferson Park golf cart due to [their] shared passion for the sport and Mr. Korn’s fear of cars”.
Fun Fact: Mr. Korn caddies for Englund because he is too scared of the clubs to golf himself.
Mr. Johnson and Mr. Woods scored the title of “Most Athletic.” These teacher athletes joined the same soccer team and they’ve been close ever since. Mr. Johnson has often “gone down to Mr. Woods’ room and recreated in live action goals [thye’ve] scored.” Johnson and Woods hype themselves up before every match by listening to “Vogue” by Madonna. Woods claimed that despite being stoic in the classroom, sometimes on the field, “players just kinda nudge me and I go flying. And sometimes I embellish. But it’s just physics: inertia.” Unfortunately, no Sounders scouts have attended their matches, but the duo also have their eyes set on basketball, hoping to get “drafted by the NBA because [they’re] kind of [ballers].” Woods said. “We’re both cerebral players so we’re kinda holding out for when they’ll maybe come looking for us,” he continued. Mr. Johnson explained how he utilizes his leg strength from soccer when he jumps on lab benches pretending to be an electron. Johnson said, “The day I fail jumping onto the lab bench is the day I retire.” The pair always trust the other even if one is “occasionally making poor choices”. Mr. Johnson loves Woods for his “willingness to be silly”, and Woods loves Johnson for his “love of life”.
Fun Fact: The pair dreams of going heli-skiing together.
